Walk-in-Tub Installation Project - Baton Rouge, LA
The Goal in Mind
A previous customer of ours had just purchased his family home in EBR and reached out to us for a few things. First, we took care of maintenance items needing attention listed in the inspection report. We were then arranged to install a walk-in tub for the customer’s elderly mother.
The goal was an economical approach to not so much improve the look of the small bathroom or enlargen by remodeling at this time but to keep it in its original style to be consistent with the other bathroom in the home. So with that consideration in mind, we would for the most part be preserving the ceramic wall and floor tiles then re-installing the original toilet and door frame.

Electrical Upgrade
The particular American Standard walk-in tub being installed required three separate new GFCI outlets for three motors with different functions – an in-line water heater, drain pump to speed up draining the high capacity of water, and one for massage jets. All three outlets require their own breaker at the main panel.
It came to be that the additional electrical load from the tub would be excessive on the home’s current electrical system so we had to upgrade it.
The main panel was replaced by a qualified electrician and now the system will work efficiently and safely for the new tub.

Demo, Moving the Tub in, And Re-finishing
The old tub was removed and set at the street for city garbage to haul away. The toilet was removed and set to the side for later re-installation. The walk-in tub needed to have parts installed before it was set in which the plumbers took care of.
The rough opening was prepared by removing tiles and cutting the framing attached to the studs. Some of the toilet copper water supply pipes were required to be removed to be able to fit the walk-in tub. Thankfully the black toilet vent pipe was able to stay in. The old tub/shower valve and drain lines were removed. The space was very tight but the tub was worked in.
With the walk-in tub in place, the water and drainage connections were made. An access panel was set up for any potential future maintenance of tub drain and water pipes. Wall tiles placed and grouted. The tub was caulked with a mildew-resistant product. Toilet and door frame re-installed. Drywall repairs and painting completed. The electrical and plumbing functions of the tub were tested and found to be working correctly.
